I spent a lot of time looking at this poster to identify what assets i could use to influence the poster for our film.
I was particularly interested in this as it was related to the gangster/ film noire genre yet was also well known for being a famous film review magazine. As you can see this is the front page.
The text for the title of the magazine is very unusual as it is being covered by an image from the filom public enemies. I feel that this magazine has gone on the idea that it will draw a lot of peoples attention by arousing suspicion as to thinking that this films is going to be big.
As you can see that the typical codes and conventions of this magazine front cover are not only to do with the main film they are concerned about but also others in the limelight... this is similar and a more advanced way to how the filming advertisement used to work in the past, with their being an a film and a b rating film in the cinemas.
Again the codes and conventions of a gangster genre are screaming out, the magazine has made sure that the image is one that people will recognise and associate with a gangster film before they even have to look at it in great detail. In a way you could see that this has a hyperdermis needle effect as the viewer is being fed the information regarding genre directly as appose to having to ask questions. I feel that there has to be more certainty of film connection on magazines as they have to relate to the film, wether it be the names of the actors bold, the title of the film large and the most prodominent image available, it must all connect with the genre and relate to the codes and conventions.
From what i can see text is kept to a minimal, maybe this is to impravise to the audience that it will be an easy read, beneficial and fun, and NOT a waste of time.
There are certain words that are included to persaude the audience such as 'First look', 'Exclusive' etc.
